TUITION -
THE SWING
“ The
typical golfer knows way too much about what is not
important in
the golf swing and far
too little about what is”
Confused about your golf swing?
Well, here’s a tip! ...... doesn’t work?....
here’s another, try this!
Basing your
golf swing on a series of hit and miss concepts from
someone in a magazine, who isn’t watching you
hit the ball, is not a sound idea. Golf tips can be found
anywhere, except on the wall of the boys room.
Here are a few examples:
-
there is only one swing for all golfers (try telling
that to Jim Furyk, US Open Champion 2003);
- the pitch shot is a miniature version of the full swing. (no wonder you cannot
hit it close);
- roll the forearms just prior to impact ( get ready to discover the left side
of the course);

We
humans hate complex, try to avoid it and seek simplicity.
Do you think Tiger’s dad taught him to think of all
the moving parts in the swing? Let’s build the golf
swing around this simple premise.
A
child learns to walk by watching its’ parents and
copying what it sees.
A junior golfer learns to swing a golf club by imitation.
How many amazing junior swings have you seen. (Sorry Steve,
but George didn’t get his swing from you !) There are
thousands of languages here on earth and the part of the
brain that runs motor skills (your golf swing) does not recognise
one of them.
There
are only three key factors in the golf swing... set-up,
lever action and connection.
Chris Arnold has been a PGA qualified professional
since 1972 and is credited with first teaching Nick Faldo
to play the game at Welwyn Garden City G.C. He has since
taught other European Tour winners and several of his
former pupils are now respected PGA Professionals. His
aim in every lesson is to keep the swing simple and make
the game fun. |
